New PixelOS Start
A new start to PixelOS after all these months of learning stuff
I have been using xaga roughly for the past 2 years, wait let me rephrase that.
I have been using Custom ROMs on xaga roughly for the past 2 years.
In the start I was only a tester for some of the ROMs Priyanshu & Chris made, but soon after that Linux took over me and I started to be more interested in Linux rather than Android development, but I always liked how AOSP is more efficient, takes fewer resources, while being smoother than stock HyperOS. I remember when Priyanshu & Chris first released PIXELOS PLUS on A14, I really liked Pixel Launcher in it and became a fan of it immediately. It was a great ROM while it lasted but soon after they decided to move on and decided to built AresOS on A14, and then I continued to use their next roms like Crdroid and newer AresOS releases.
In early this year, I started to figure out AOSP and eventually build PixelOS. My first release was on 13 Feb 2026, which was usable at best. It was not a signed build, had some basic things wrong, and I didn’t mean to maintain it, as specified in the post.
To be honest, I was pretty down at that point. I spent 2-3 days building this ROM for the first time. I didn’t know much of what I was doing, somehow had a repo manifest inside another manifest, and Xagaforge was archived at that point because Chris had his device broken, so he had stopped working on ROM development. Luckily, 3 days after my first PixelOS release, he decided he would be continuing AresOS in his free time and with it, the Xagaforge org. This was a turning point for me, and I started to see that maybe I could continue building PIXELOS.
And so I did, and since then I don’t even have a count of how many builds I have built & how many builds I have released, some of them might have some broken stuff & so some were quite good releases, but it was always trial and error. Some of the things that I reverted I added them back, only to revert them again. This has been a journey, and in this journey Chris has been with me.
After all this I think we have come to a quite stable point now. For the last 2 months, all the releases have been very good. Therefore, I decided to give PixelOS a new start. Things won’t change much for you as users, and trust me you don’t need to clean flash the next release either, but on the building side, things are in a pretty good state now. I have my workflow figured out where I can just get a build running within 5 minutes of signing into a new VM, I have also created a new GitHub org where I have moved all the device trees for building PixelOS. I have tried to keep everything open-source there, other than my signing keys which are private everything is open-source there.
Thanks you all for your support!
For all you waiting, these are the major Changes in the next release:
